element-i education foundation at Kraus & Naimer in Karlsruhe
Little inventors and researchers make it big
“How do the small plastic beads become a finished component?” “Where do the springs come in?”
Curious looks and questions rained down in all departments at Kraus & Naimer Karlsruhe on November 8th. Thirteen preschool children and their teachers were guests on behalf of the element-i educational foundation and were given exciting insights into switch production - from toolmaking to the manufacture of the individual components, laser inscription and assembly to the dispatch of the finished switches. Stefanie Polzer (Marketing & Communication) explained everything in a child-friendly manner and with the patience of an angel.
But of course it wasn't enough to just look and ask questions. The children from the "gummy bear group" were allowed to assemble switch modules themselves - a real challenge in terms of dexterity and concentration, as it turned out. Even when experimenting with the electrical construction kit, everyone was very enthusiastic and beamed when the circuit finally worked, the propellers turned, lights came on and signals sounded.
With the Tinkerers' and Researchers' Day, element-i wants to give children the opportunity to try out natural sciences, technology and crafts at an early age, to inspire children's urge to explore and to ignite their enthusiasm so that it lasts over the years. Almost 5,000 children have taken part since the campaign day began. "We are very pleased to have been able to support this great project as a cooperation partner for years!" says Ralf Schick, CEO at Kraus & Naimer Germany.
Catering with muffins and pizza, caps and safety vests with logo and name and many small souvenirs of this visit were of course not missing. The little inventors and researchers will definitely discover a switch with the PHI here and there on escalators, supermarket checkouts, ski lifts or machines in the future and think back to this great trip.
