Magic word material flow: Touch-Panel as the heart of the flexible industrial workplace
Moving heavy boxes was yesterday. Modern workplaces in industry shine today with ergonomically optimized solutions for smooth processes. This is exactly where item Industrietechnik GmbH from Solingen is at home – pioneer and global market leader in modular systems for industrial applications.
As a current development, item is presenting a system workstation from the item Lean Production modular system with height-adjustable work levels and connected mobile robotics. The goal: internal logistics of the highest efficiency. The implementation: As if by magic, a transport trolley - moved by an AGV - rolls to the intended workplace. With the help of a shuttle system, material boxes are retrieved from an automatic small parts warehouse, recorded and conveyed to the picking station via a conveyor belt. The trolley docks directly at this picking station.
Central role HMI
The work table is raised or lowered to the optimal position via the KN-C Plug & Play touch panel. To do this, Kraus & Naimer programmed the connection to the item BL 1-04/C controller – the servo controller for item servo motors. It determines the speed and position of the adjustable working plane. With the help of rollers, the crates can be easily removed and pushed at the right level into the transport trolleys developed by item for this process - without any effort.
“Our HMI accesses an existing configuration in the split screen via the web browser. Using the JMobile software and Soft-CODESYS programming, we added the startup and shutdown functions and an admin page without interfering with the existing system," says Fabian Roth.
Fortunately, the software parameters of the devices leave a lot of freedom. In the WEB version, an existing HTML5 visualization can be accessed via the pre-installed Chromium browser. Alternatively, there are devices with JMobile (easy-to-learn manufacturer software for industrial automation and edge management) or with CODESYS. A combination – as in the case of item – makes sense in many cases and delivers quick results.
Closed all around – maximally open in the choice of location
No control cabinet and no separate housing are required when installing the KN-C Plug & Play. The closed control panel with all-round protection of IP67 makes the choice of location extremely flexible. It can easily be installed freely hanging at a suitable point on the profile tube system, a support arm or a wall bracket.
The high-resolution multi-touch PCAP display in sizes 5" to 21" with a robust real glass front is available from a housing depth of 16.5 mm. With the elegant device design, it blends seamlessly into any environment. Even with the most demanding IIoT edge applications, the powerful plug & play delivers reliably thanks to the i.MX8 processor.
This is how things get moving!
"Our mission is to create diverse connections - between processes, workplaces and areas, but also between man and machine," explains Christian Wieland, project manager in 'Strategic Production' at item. “With the item modular system, we have the perfect basis – adjustments or additions, as in the project described here, are possible at any time. And thanks to consistent compatibility and over 4,500 components for special areas of application in materials handling, automation, robot integration, lean production and ergonomic workplace design, we are incredibly flexible.”
